The red-brick complex at 12 Oil Street is a Grade II historic building that was originally built in 1908 and once served as the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and later as the staff quarters of the Government Supplies Department. The site is refurbished as an art space and has been open in its new configuration since 2013.
A project was organised during the preparation, in which 12 groups of people from different walks of life were paired with 12 artists to stage their own version of the 12 Oil Street story with their cameras.
The 12 participating community groups include iPhone users, architecture students, South Asian families, North Point residents and several others. The 12 albums created will record 12 unique experiments based on the interactions between the artists and the different communities.
