Organised by: Art Promotion Office
Since 2010, Art Promotion Office has launched public art projects such as "Art@Government Buildings" and "ARTivating Public Buildings". By embellishing public areas in government buildings with artistic elements, these projects not only aim to create a new visitor experience, but also intend to encourage creativity in local artists. APO lately has launched a new public art project entitled "Art n GOs" as part of a continuing effort to create an artistic space in government premises. Through these art installations, we hope to facilitate local development of public art and open up new ways of seeing art for the general public.
In this project, we have commissioned local architect Tsoi Wai Kuen to create an artwork titled Transience at the West Kowloon Government Offices. As a young registered architect devoted to local culture, Tsoi has been actively engaged in various exhibitions and events in an attempt to widely promote the interaction between culture, space and community. Transience is a simple static installation that offers visitors a dynamic and ever-changing visual experience. Each module within the work is composed respectively of three distinct colours, three groups of patterns, at three different angles, conjoining into a contemporary tabula-stritta. As people walk past, the Lion Rock silhouette continuously morphs from red to blue to green, from dots to lines to surfaces, depicting the eternal relationship between the constant and the changing.
