"Hong Kong Week", presented and organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, is a major cultural exchange extravaganza. Since its launch in Shanghai in 2019, the festival has been held in Guangzhou, Wuhan, Bangkok and Seoul, respectively. This year’s sixth edition of "Hong Kong Week" opens on 4 September in Chengdu, presenting 15 programmes with over 55 performances and activities. It showcases Hong Kong’s artistic diversity while fostering exchanges and collaboration between the arts communities of Hong Kong and Chengdu, writing a new chapter in the cultural relationship between Sichuan and Hong Kong.
As part of "Hong Kong Week 2026@Chengdu", the Art Promotion Office organises "A Day of Wandering: Hong Kong ICH and Contemporary Art Exhibition" at the Chengdu Art Museum. The exhibition invites visitors to explore 11 items of Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage (ICH) in everyday scenes from the perspective of a traveller journeying through the streets and alleys of Hong Kong from morning to night.ICH practitioners Lui Ming (Steamer Making Technique), Joseph Tso Chi-hung (Guangcai Making Technique) and Choi Wing-kei (Flower Board Crafting Technique) were specially invited to create new pieces for the exhibition. Additionally, contemporary artists Hung Keung, Inkgo Lam Ka-yu and Martina Tso Ka-yin were commissioned to create multimedia art, installation art and contemporary Guangcai porcelain respectively, responding to the inheritance and innovation of Hong Kong’s ICH from various perspectives. Through the convergence of traditional crafts and contemporary art, the exhibition presents the profound cultural significance and vitality inherent in Hong Kong’s ICH, showcasing Hong Kong’s unique cultural landscape.
