Video
Duration: approx. 15 minutes

Inspired by his residency, Chan Sai-lok weaves a poignant tale of fleeting love. Drawing from snippets of daily life in the streets and alleys, and the rich history of Fortress Hill, he crafts a narrative both brief and futile. The fleeting nature of the story echoes the artist’s short stay at Oil Street, while its futility reflects the often misunderstood lifestyle of an artist. These subtle divergences from the norm inevitably shape relationships, dooming love to failure — and in that failure, finding a bittersweet beauty.

The video unfolds like a vintage slide show, each frame a photograph transformed. Printed, adorned with painted embellishments and then digitally reborn through scanning, these images tell a story that loops from dawn to sunrise and back again. The same images, reversed, paint a mirrored narrative.
