Artist Biography
Kevin Siu (left) and Shuyan Chan (right) draw much of their inspiration from both individual and collective experiences in the city: how the body senses urban space, how people form memories of places, and how strangers encounter one another in public space and collectively imagine the city. Working with light, shadow, space, installation, text and interactive experiences, they explore how everyday perceptions can be translated and shared, thereby becoming a way of renewing the relationship between people and the city.
Their past work spans urban interpretation, spatial design, collaborative art-making, material reuse and children’s play. A recurring focus in their practice is that how people experience, remember and imagine a place, and how this can reshape their relationships with one another and their environment. In the exhibition “Sensing Interchange”, this line of inquiry moves between perception and imagination. Through interactive experiences, personal perceptions are transformed into visible traces, allowing fragments of the city — some lived, others still imagined — to converge briefly within the same space.
Both trained as architects, Chan and Siu co-founded AaaM Architects, a Hong Kong-based architecture and design research practice. Through their concept “Architecture as a Medium”, they continue to explore the possibilities between architecture, art, participatory design and public life.
