Living Soundscape — Tuen Mun
(A set of 2)
While walking between the Tuen Mun Town Centre and Lung Yat Community Hall, Li Tin-lun listened to the sounds that envelop Tuen Mun and experienced the diversity of people's daily lives.
He has now converted the sounds he recorded along the route into visual structures that demonstrate the high and low frequencies of the soundtrack. Two sets are presented. The first soundscape displayed on the wall is composed of the buildings alongside Tuen Mun River and their reflection in the river; the differences in height represent the changes in sound in the community. The other set displayed on the staircase handrail is also an environmental sound recording, this time converted into frequence structure with sihouettes from people's lives to form a dedicated composition of "live" music.
Born in 1980, Li Tin-lun obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts in 2003 and his Master of Fine Arts in 2012 from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. His work spans many disciplines, from sculpture and virtual modeling to digital images and interactive installation. He has been drawn to creating "soundscape" sculpture, which record environmental sounds in different communities. His work has been exhibited at the 2nd "CAFAM Future" Exhibition, Hong Kong Eye and Hong Kong Contemporary Art Awards 2012. He was selected in the "ARTivating Public Buildings" presented by the Home Affairs Bureau to install public artworks at the Lung Yat Community Hall and his works are collected by the Art Promotion Office.
