Brainrental, a home-grown creative trio renowned for their wise and ironic artistic creation, was invited to transform the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre (vA!) into the Museum of Hands, a time-limited museum that showcased the evolution of "Hands" from the pre-digital to the post-digital age. In this exhibition, they extracted the intrinsic quality of hand-making, namely individualistic expression, humanistic spirit, emphasis on intuition, and interaction with materials, from their hands-on experience. Based on these qualities, they made a series of experimental modifications of various 3D printing processes, blurring the boundary between the hand-made and the machine-made. With the innovative use of 3D printing technology, they created a series of artworks featuring art installations, drawings and collage sculptures, presenting their studies on the subject of "Hands" from different perspectives. It aimed to expand the understanding of "Hands" and rediscover their remarkable role in art creation in the trend of making art with technology.
Artist
Brainrental is a creative trio based in Hong Kong. Translating a myriad of humour, irony, and uncanny perceptions into creations that distil the absurdities of modern life, Brainrental's work takes on an array of forms with outcomes that are intended to fuel curiosity and ignite minds. With works in illustration, graphic, motion, product and spatial design, the trio's unrestricted view of 2D and 3D enables them to blur the boundaries between whimsy and reality. Expanding their creative territory for this exhibition, the Museum of Hands, is a team of talents in industrial design, engineering, graphic design, and more.
