Oi! Artist-in-Residence and Exhibition Programme - Open Call for Proposals

1. Background
Oi! is an art space located in the North Point community, aiming to be an artistic oasis amidst the bustling city. Through diverse art programmes, Oi! explores the possibilities of art in community engagement, connecting different communities through various art forms and integrating a wide range of knowledge and experiences.
Oi! is now calling for artist-in-residence and exhibition proposals (hereinafter referred to as “Proposals”) to invite Hong Kong artists and creative talents to participate in the “Oi! Artist-in-Residence and Exhibition Programme” (hereinafter referred to as “the Programme”). Selected applicants will conduct research at Oi! and showcase the outcomes of their residency and creations to the public through organising exhibitions at the galleries of Oi!. There are no restrictions on the genre of artwork or creative medium. Proposals can be tailored to the venue and its characteristics, accommodating diverse artistic disciplines and sectors.

18. Submission Deadline
A complete set of Proposal (details refer to items in Section 9 and Section 10 in "Proposal Requirements") should be delivered or mailed to “Oi!, 12 Oil Street, North Point, Hong Kong” by 20:00 (Hong Kong Time) on 5 April 2024 (Friday). For Proposals sent by post, the date of the postal chop on the envelope will be regarded as the date of submission.“Oi! Artist-in-Residence and Exhibition Programme –– Call for Proposals” must be indicated on the envelope.

3. Objectives
- We are dedicated to supporting local artists and creative individuals through this residency and exhibition programme, providing them with the opportunity to unleash their imagination and actively engage in artistic creation while showcasing their exceptional talents to the public.
- We anticipate that applicants will propose exhibitions and activities that leverage the unique features of the venue and align with the vision of Oi!, utilizing art and creativity to connect with the community.
- We encourage applicants to foster collaborative creation and engagement from the neighborhoods around Oi! and various communities. By infusing art into the community, we aim to enhance its vibrancy and realise the boundless potential of art integrating into everyday life.
4. Artwork Genre

5. Eligibility
- The Programme is open to Hong Kong residents aged 18 or above and hold a valid Hong Kong Identity Cards;
- Applicants can submit a Proposal either as individuals (hereinafter referred to as “Individual Applicants”) or as a group with a maximum of three members (hereinafter referred to as “Group Applicants”).
- Commercial entities, staff of Oi! and members of the Programme's adjudication panel are not eligible to participate in the Programme.
- Selected applicants are required to submit relevant documents and proof for vetting on the eligibility.
6. Proposal Budget
- The commission fee will be determined based on the size of the exhibition space. Applicants are required to clearly specify in their proposals the intended exhibition venue (either Warehouse 1 or Warehouse 2 at Oi!).
- Regardless of whether applicants are selected as individuals or groups, each selected proposal intended for exhibition at Warehouse 1 will receive a commission fee of no more than HKD 420,000, while each selected proposal intended for exhibition at Warehouse 2 will receive a commission fee of no more than HKD 530,000.
- The commission fees mentioned above represent the maximum amount available. The actual commission fees will be determined based on the proposed budget.
- The commission covers the artist's fee and any direct expenses related to the proposal. (please refer to “Sample Breakdown of the Proposal Budget” at the bottom of the subpage “Proposal Requirements" for more details. The artist's fee for each proposal is capped at HKD 50,000 and the audit report subsidy is capped at HKD 8,000.)
- The Programme does not provide accommodation, but selected applicants may utilise the space at Oi! for research, subject to arrangement made by Oi!.
- Oi! reserves the right to postpone the Programme period in case of disruptions caused by special circumstances. Otherwise, all arrangements for the Programme shall be cancelled. Oi! will consider issuing partial payments based on the actual completed task(s) of the Programme.
