Artist UUendy Lau draws inspiration from the old candlenut tree and the Chinese hackberry at Oi!, using narrative illustrations to imagine and depict the stories of various trees that have lived in this urban oasis over the decades, while capturing the vitality that has continuously nurtured the community across generations.
The mural and public art installation at Oi! Deck features a tree spirit as a symbol of guardianship, accompanying cross-generational stories and people, architecture, history, art, culture and everyday moments, presenting the interaction and emotional connection between humanity and our community. “Have a Tree Day” invites audiences to reflect on their connection with the natural environment and to see trees not merely as passive landscapes but as trusted companions that provide joy, protection and reassurance.

Public Programme: Make a Zine! (Fruit edition)
Inspired by the fruits and vegetables growing at Oi!, this programme invites you to unleash your imagination and create your own zine, weaving whimsical tales of feathered friends flocking to the garden and sharing the harvest with the Tree Spirit. Participants will design unique looks for the birds and their fruity finds, bringing a heartwarming story back home.

Community Interactive Tour: Treasure Hunt
Led by our docent, this tour invites you to step into the artist’s creative vision. We warmly welcome you to slow down under the lush shade of Oi!, look closely at every corner of the "Have a Tree Day" mural, and discover its hidden details. The tour features an interactive treasure hunt—participants will be invited to spot the mysterious easter eggs in the mural.

Unveiled alongside the outdoor mural installation of “Have a Tree Day” project, this tour offers a glimpse into the creative perspective, uncovering the subtle synergy between Oi!, nature and the community. Take a gentle walk beneath the shade of the Candlenut and Chinese Banyan trees and tune into the everyday stories woven by nature and the neighborhood.
