The Art Promotion Office, in collaboration with the Shenzhen Fringe Art Center, proudly presents "Ink Art Ensembles" Exhibition Series in the Greater Bay Area. Guest-curated by Hong KO and Eric ZHU, the series features five exhibitions in four cities in the GBA, including Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Foshan and Dongguan. As a joint showcase for "Ink Art Ensembles" Exhibition Series in the Greater Bay Area, the first exhibition is also one of the programmes in the 4th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Culture and Arts Festival. This group exhibition showcasing 19 sets of works by artists serves as a prelude to "Ink Art Ensembles" Exhibition Series in the Greater Bay Area. It brings together artists from Hong Kong and the Mainland, including Raymond FUNG Wing Kee, Ross YAU Wing Fung, Tony NG Kwun Lun, Barbara CHOI Tak Yee, XING Lili, _.WAV_Studio_ (CAO Yuxi and LAU Hiu Kong), OU Tingzhu and WEN Qiuwen, to redefine the meaning of ink art and revitalise its dynamics through painting, sculpture, installation art, multi-media art and fashion design.
The theme of this exhibition, "New Dynamics of Qi Yun", originates from "Qi Yun Sheng Dong", proposed by XIE He (479-502), a painter in the Southern Qi Dynasty (479-502), in his "Six Methods of Painting". "Qi Yun" signifies the vitality and dynamic tension inherent in ink painting. In the context of Cantonese culture, "Xin Dong" phonetically resembles "Sheng Dong" (New Movement), indicating new changes and developments. As Hong Kong's contemporary ink art actively engages in dialogues with the contemporary art of the GBA, this interaction enriches new forms of ink art expression and fosters dynamic relationships and vitality among the cities in the GBA. The exhibition will offer the audience a feast for the eyes, allowing them to appreciate the beauty of ink art, while experiencing the rich and diverse cultural charm of the GBA.
